Northern Cardinal

Cardinalis cardinalis

Male - Maryland, USA - February 2000

The Northern Cardinal is my favourite North American bird. This stunningly beautiful bird is a common resident of the eastern United States preferring bushy habitats with open areas, such as suburban parks and gardens.

In winter, Cardinals are frequent visitors to bird tables and can often be seen in the company of White-throated Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos and Song Sparrows.
